Three and a Half Hours

Three classes this semester, fifteen thesis students, a low residency student, a job interview next week, three readings during the week of the job interview: stomach is churning, churning, burning. And did I mention the book? I did not mention the book, which is due this spring, though later this spring. Luckily it seems to have taken on a life of its own, or insist on nudging me between bouts of other work. This is largely due to my great and lovely editor, Fiona McCrae, who has helped me see the book anew at this very late stage of things. We met a week ago last Friday night and talked and laughed and talked. Outside, snow was falling on Columbus Avenue, and when we stood up to leave the cafe it was getting on nine o'clock. Three and a half hours had passed!

Paul
no matter how hectic,
overwhelming, exhausting
or choked
with contradictory claims it gets,
you can't claim
Life's forgotten you
overlooked
or cast you aside.

tattered gratitude?
gratitude nonetheless-
enough

now rest

This is true. But no rest for the wicked until at least the middle of March. That is starting to seem possible.
