When I try to think of what kind of life Milo might dream of, it's something like that, only with rabbits and squirrels to chase. But how does one pay for food for that many dogs?
I wonder how the St Bernards feel about being with so many of their kind. You must be wondering that yourself, with the speculation that Milo would rather be with rabbits and squirrels.
I keep thinking of this as a Fire Island Pines for St. Bernards. I don't necessarily mean that as an undesirable thing. But I think if I were a St. Bernard I'd prefer some bulldogs, German shepherds, and retrievers in the mix!
In the Disney film they called her "Nana," and I thought she was a St. Bernard, but I don't remember. I haven't seen it since it was in the theater! But I do think Peter Pan was my first crush. Bad boys, you know.
I read the book a few years ago after reading somewhere that it was one of Mary Gaitskill's favorite books. And yes it was Nana, and I'm almost sure she was a Newfoundland. But Disney has its ways.
I'm trying to wrap my head around Mary Gaitskill loving Peter Pan...was it clear what she took away (if anything) from that experience? Clear influences?

LOVE this. When I was born, my parents bought a St. Bernard ostensibly to help baby-sit. (Like Nana from Peter Pan.) I ADORED him.
